St. Catherine's Monastery and Mt. Sinai

Both UNESCO and my guide book call St. Catherine's Monastery the oldest Christian monastery still in use for it's initial function. I would believe that only if it's initial function was entertaining bus loads of tourists and providing a live television channel for anyone unable to make the trip out here. Still, the fortified monastery you see here was built in the 6th century so it's pretty old none the less. The mountain in the background is part of Mt. Sinai but not it's peak. The peak is hidden behind.
