Dates and Figs

I lived on dates and figs during my travels around Croatia and I really missed them in India. I knew I would be able to find plenty in Istanbul. This is at the Egyptian Spice Market.

Bart

I already knew I wanted to go to Istanbul instead of Darmstadt, but when I found out that my friend Bart who I met at the start of my trip in Tunis was also going to be in Istanbul at the same time I knew it would be a good choice.

Istanbul!

Instead of going home to Darmstadt with Regina I decided to get off the plane in Istanbul

The Karni Mata Temple at Deshnok

Near Bikaner. I went here because I saw it on Globe Trekker. I think it's funny when I visit a place just because I saw it on TV or in a movie. At the Karni Mata Temple pilgrims come to worship rats that are believed to be reincarnations of dead storytellers. There are more interesting things to take pictures of in the temple, but the rats weren't cooperating.

And they expain what you are eating

And of course it's good!

One of the best things about taking trains in India...

Is that the other passengers share their food with you.

Sugar cane juice

In Cuba they call this a Guarapo mill and they squeeze the juice from the sugar cane while you wait and then serve it to you in a glass (the drink itself they call Guarapo). The Guarapo here isn't as good and if it wasn't the food the other night night then it was this that got me sick (It also could have been a couple sweets that I bought at a sweet shop).

Makhania Lassi

A creamy sweet milk drink. It's awesome! I went here twice today.

Last night's meal

All you can eat for 45 rupees (less than a dollar). When you use up your rice or the stuff that is in the little bowls then the guy comes by with the bucket and scoops some more onto your plate. It was soooo good too. I really hope it's not what got me sick.

Last night's restaurant

Serving Rajasthani food. I may have gotten sick because of it.
